Documentary and Web Chat: Friday, July 24

We will air our FTMC documentary narrated by Michigan Radio’s Christina Shockley at 1pm on Friday, July 24. Conflicts Between Medical Costs and Mortgage Payments

We’ve been hearing a lot of stories like this. A family or individual gets hit with a huge illness or injury, and as a result can’t handle both the health care expenses and the mortgage. We wanted to take a closer look at the relationship between health care costs and foreclosures. Michigan Radio’s Christina Shockley talks with Larry Gant, a professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

Coping With the Loss of a House

Last year we spoke with Debbie Gilliam. She was about to lose her house to foreclosure after losing her job. Now, a year later, Gilliam still lives with her mom. She is struggling to work through the transition and deal with the loss of her house. Gilliam is still looking for a full-time job and hopes to someday own a house again.

We will incorporate a Twitter chat using the hashtag #FTMC to track the conversation. All you need is a Twitter account and you can use a site like TweetChat to participate. This will work like a web chat, except every message remains on Twitter permanently.
